CES: Xbox, Zune, and a Grampa who was Born to be Wild

LAS VEGAS (CES – Convention Center Courtyard)
Hello everybody. Nice seeing you again.
Apologies on the posting delays…as usual, Marketing has been keeping me pretty busy with pretty important projects:
Game Room
We’re moving into the Game Room now, a brackish place littered with empty Red Bull cans and pizza boxes, and inhabited by a semi-surly teen and his beloved Xbox.
Cool jazz in here: Teenboy jumps easily from Xbox gaming to Windows Media Center – he can pull content from the Living Room DEC, but finds out his Mom has blocked his access to “Jackass.” He also navigates Life|ware, checks out cameras and more – all with his wireless Xbox controller.
Check out his Zune – he synchs it with his 360, and watches Heroes on it. Also, he met his girlfriend by beaming “Famous Last Words” by My Chemical Romance to her.
Best joke in this room:
“I told my Dad if he swapped out my chair for a toilet, I’d never have to leave this room. I asked if he’d do it, and he said ‘Depends’.”
That one kills me.
Home Office
Across the hallway is the home office, where we find Grampa checking out some properties in Florida online. With a click, he’s into Life|ware, and shows us how he uses it to not only control the entire house (Grampa is always making sure lights are off everywhere), but to check in on his Florida home as well…
Grampa also tells us about his DSC security system and the Russound audio system, which he can control from his desktop, from the Life|point on the wall or from the Russound audio keypad. As the volume gets adjusted in one place, it is instantly reflected in the others. The tight integration with Russound is pretty cool.

Grampa also pulls the Great Room photo off the printer and shows it to the group (impressive follow-up there) and then puts on some road music for his new RV – Born to Be Wild.
“Like a true nature’s child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna dieeeeeeee……”
Then everyone in the room belts out:
“BOOOOORN TO BEE WIIIIILLDDD…”
This room is a lot of fun.
Around the House
Traffic is still steady all day long as word of the experience we present makes its way around the show. CES is so focused on gadgets and bits that we really are unique in our presentation of fully integrated, in-context living experiences.
While people wait in line, EI and Best Buy folks chat with them and pass out water and such…
Here, EI’s Brett Werner explains why he believes Starsky and Hutch sunglasses will one day come back in style…
All for now, folks.
Up next: The Master Bedroom
Good times…
