To keep our dealers in the know about some of Life|ware’s most compelling features, we’ve created a series of e-mail communications called “Did you know?” This is the companion procedure to “Using Collections.”

Introduction

In Life|ware Visual Project, you can create collections of devices that can be dragged into a script to automatically add all devices to the script, or dragged into a menu to automatically add all devices to a submenu.

Note: One of the ways Collections are used is to add devices to a script style. However, before you can apply a Collection to a script style, you must create the script style. We will deal with creating a script style in a future post.

Creating a Collection

Use the following steps to create a collection.

1. Click the Collections tab on the Configuration Pane.

2. Click the plus (+) sign to create a new collection. The Collections window appears in the Designer window area.

3. Enter the collection name in the Name field.

4. To add devices to the Collection, drag them from the Devices Pane into the Collection Items field.

Note: Pay attention to the order in which you add devices to the Collection. The order in which you add devices to the Collection is the order in which they will be added to the Script Style, script, or menu.

5. Click File | Save.

Alternative Method of Adding a Device to a Collection

You can also add a device to a collection by right-clicking the device in the Configuration Pane.

1. Right-click the device in the Configuration Pane.

2. Point to Add To.

3. Select the collection to add the device to.

Adding a Collection to a Script

Use the following steps to add a Collection of devices to a script:

1. Open the script you want to add the devices to in the Designer Window.

2. Click the Collections tab.

3. Drag the Collection from the Collections tab into the script in the Designer Window.

The Collection devices appear in the script.

4. Click File | Save.

Adding a Collection to a Submenu

Use the following steps to add a Collection of devices to a submenu:
1. Open the menu and submenu you want to add the devices to in the Designer Window.

2. Click the Collections tab.

3. Drag the Collection from the Collections tab into the submenu in the Designer Window.

The Collection devices appear in the submenu.

4. Click File | Save
